The Great Snowman Day

This last great snow storm was for Naomi, who wanted to make a snowman!
Here is Ian's creation! He made the baby snowman; with help from Mimi.
Ian with the baby. Naomi with the mom. Vivi with the dad.
Dayna made the big snowguy up front. Only Ian would cheese for the picture.
(It is a nice view of Naomi's bum and the back of Viv's head though.)
Un snow beso.
It was a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon. We are glad the Birds came to visit!!!!

Si Vas Para Chile

Yesterday marked 1 year since our big trip to Chile. Ian celebrated by doing two things. First, Ian wore his soccer uniform from Chile and wrote a backwards 7 on the jersey in magic marker. Yeah. It was great. Pato told him he'd put a number on the back, but then didn't get to it and Ian hasn't forgotten the jersey needs a number. We also ate the last of our cookies from Chile! Here is Ian with his two little friends having hot chocolate and chilean cookies after spending an hour playing in the snow!
C-H-I-L-E. Chi, chi, chi, le, le, le. ¡Viva Chile!
C-H-I-L-E. Chi, chi, chi, le, le, le. ¡Viva Chile!

Who's the Fat Lady?

About 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning Ian climbed into my bed and I guess, somehow, I accidentally rolled over his arm. He didn't complain about it at all, but later marched on down to Mimi and Papa's for "something." He wouldn't disclose what that "something" was. About 15 minutes later he walked up with his right arm completely wrapped, from wrist to shoulder, in an ace bandage.
"What you got there, Buddy?" I asked.
"It's an R.C. Willey bandage," he said proudly.
"A what?" I didn't even get it.
"An R.C. Willey bandage." He repeated. Then, I started laughing. Ace Hardware, R.C. Willey. What is the difference really? When I wouldn't let him wear a long sleeve shirt and gloves to church, he tired of the "R.C. Willey" bandage and took it off.
Later that night he was wrestling with Whit. I yelled, "Dog Pile on Whit!"
Ian jumped on and I went to jump on him and he screamed, "Wait! I don't want a fat lady on me!"
"Who's the fat lady?" I asked.
Later as I retold the story and said again, "Who's the fat lady?" Sophie laughed right out loud over her dinner. I guess I must be the fat lady.

The Homemade Camp Fire

While I was doing the dishes, Ian started a campfire in the living room. Fortunately it was only a paper fire. He painted the fire on several pieces of paper and then roasted his marshmallow on a fork. (He also built a tent over the kitchen chairs.) He can't wait for summer!

The Easy Way

Since Ian is a lefty, he frequently writes in both directions. He was doing this math paper and I told him to put his name on it. He said, "I did. The easy way." It is hard to see in this picture, but if you look closely, you will see that between the letters a and m in the word name, he put a big I. So, with his backwards, left handed writing....it indeed spells his name. I hope he doesn't get so lazy that actually writing out a three letter name is a chore that needs to be done "the easy way."

American Idol

Ian and I watch American Idol; sometimes. We've been able to catch a few episodes the last couple of weeks. Ian likes to put a thumbs up or thumbs down while hearing the singer. Last night I was trying to bother him by singing in his ear. He stood up, pointed his finger toward the door, and yelled, "YOU'RE NOT GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!" Hum. I guess he doesn't think I can sing.

Ian y yo miramos American Idol; a veces. Ummm. Parece que él no cree que yo puedo cantar.

Reading Fun

Mimi is busy teaching Ian to read! He is so excited since he can now read three chapters in a "big kid" book. Chapter one goes something like this:
Red
Come Red.
Come Come.
Come here.
Come Nancy.
Come Susan.
Come here.
Come here Nancy.
Come here Susan.
Come here Red.
Chapter two goes something like this:
Bill
Come here Bill.
Come, come.
Here Bill.
Here Susan.
Go Nancy.
Go Susan.
Go. Go.
Stop Nancy.
Stop Susan.
Stop. Stop.
It's been pretty darn fun and we aren't ever going to stop reading now!

The Big 05

It finally came! Ian's birthday! The big 05. He was so excited. It started with breakfast in bed.
Then we spent the afternoon playing in the snow. It's true, Ian's sled is a silver bowl! Fun stuff.
After a pizza dinner, the party started. Ian led everyone in singing Happy Birthday. He also decorated his own cake. (He's returned to his pj top, but if you look closely, he's wearing suit pants. He wore his suit the entire day, because it was a special, very special, occasion.)
The gifts were a hit, especially the spin art kit. Always an artist first, this was his favorite gift. He also got a new shirt, a couple of games, a volcano building kit, a Curious George book and Bull Dog from the Super Dog series. We had to try the spin art kit right away!!!!
Before bed we filled our shoes with hay and left them on the porch in hopes that the three kings would pass by and leave us gifts. (They did!) Ian used his slippers, because those are the biggest shoes he has!
For my part, I can hardly believe that he his five. It's okay though, the day he turned five he started talking about being six!

Happy New Year 2007
We had a great celebration running up to Ian's friend Kellee's house every hour leaving a "New Year's" treat on the door along with a note informing her where it was midnight: Rio de Janiero, Santiago Chile, San Juan Puerto, Rico, Boston....etc. Ian only made it until 10:00 before he fell into a sound sleep. (I followed shortly there after.) The next morning, he was thrilled to find a note informing us that midnight did actually occur in Utah....along with a pile of candy. Before we went to bed, we made a toast to the new year. As seen in foto #1. Ian wanted to toast in the new year another way; which you can see in foto #2. Have a great year!

¡Prospero Ano a Todos!

Merry Christmas

Ho. Ho. Ho. Merry Christmas. Christmas morning was a very big hit.
We hope your day was a joyful as ours was.
The first thing Ian said when he finished opening his presents was:
"My birthday is in 10 days!"
Jo. Jo. Jo. Feliz Navidad.

Christmas Eve

It's Christmas Eve and Ian decided that the reindeer would probably be very thirsty from their big ride. He filled up a pot of water to give them a big drink. He also left carrot sticks all over the lawn along with oatmeal mixed with glitter. On Christmas morning he was so excited to see that the water was all gone he didn't notice the soggy oatmeal on the lawn until yesterday morning. "Mom," he said, "This is really weird."
"What honey?" I asked trying to get him into the car.
"The reindeer food is still here. They only drank the water, they didn't eat any of the food."
"They ate all the carrots," I answered. My flashlight and I knew that for sure.
"But they didn't eat any of this reindeer food."
"Aunt Brooke must make rotten reindeer food." I had to blame somebody.
We decided next year to play it safe by ONLY putting out water and carrots. We are bagging the oatmeal forever!!!

Spreading the Cheer

One of Ian's favorite things to do at Christmas is leave treats for the neighbors, ring the doorbell and run like mad. He's ready to deliver the treat! (He's tried it too....you can see by the smudge of chocolate on his face!) Nobody will guess his true identity tonight. We probably won't write again until Christmas is long gone. Happy Christmas everyone!!!!

La Casa de Jengibre or The Gingerbread House

Some kind soul left a gingerbread house kit on our front porch. We had a lot of fun putting it together. Ian let me put the house together, but refused to let me put on the candy. He's the artist in the family and believes I have no talent in .....well....anything.

The Nativity

So, the annual Nativity play took place again. Ian was, of course, a wise man. He can not be convinced to play anything else. Last night we had family home evening and talked about the true meaning of Christmas. We had a doll we wrapped up in "swaddling clothes" and set in a "manger". Ian said, "Can we keep this by the Christmas tree? I want Santa to know that we love Jesus." I thought that was pretty darn cute!

Feliz Navidad

Merry Christmas! As you can see the natives are restless waiting for Santa. We had a great time last weekend with the Birds here visiting. We also have a little snow. Enough for this guy and one shovel of the driveway. Fortunately Uncle Spencer was here and took care of that job. Here's hoping for a white Christmas this year!

¡Feliz Navidad!

The Lights at Temple Square

We went to Temple Square last night to see the lights. The first picture is Ian singing a Christmas Carol at the top of his lungs. We had a fun time as you can see by his angelic face posed in front of his "favorite tree". Merry Christmas! We went with the young women and he spent most of the evening trying to hold hands with an older woman (age 9). He is definately starting early and has a little bit, okay maybe a lot, of Iver in him (obviously).

Getting Ready for Christmas....La Navidad

Here is Ian waiting for the light parade to start! Today we officially begin our countdown to Christmas. We are so excited. Ian can't wait....and frankly neither can I.

Hola.
