Art or Science?

I'm not sure what I found more impressive the art or the science. Mimi was watching Ian last week while I was at work and got out the play dough for him. He created the life cycle of a frog. You'll note it starts at egg and moves through to the frog. We hadn't been talking about it or anything. I loved his sculptures, but I was more surprised that he knew the life cycle of a frog.

T-Ball

Ian played his first T-ball game last night. He got three good hits and had a lot of fun. Of course, the best part was flirting with the enemy, Jordan from his preschool class. Who after the game informed me that, "We could call him her boyfriend." Fabulous.

Fabuloso. Hola Cara chica.

FISH!!!

We have pets. No, hell didn't freeze over. Dayna offered this fish tank to us, and I decided it was time. Thanks to Spencer who dropped it off last night. Ian has chosen the 5 fish he will keep as his pets. He named them: Orangey, Reddy, Spot, Goldilocks, and Kurt. It was an exciting night at our house. The fish moved into their new room, right next to Ian's bed. He has decided he must sleep in his bed now because he's the fishes "big brother" and must take care of them. Maybe they will be good for something?
¿Cierto?

Payasito

Sometimes Ian is a clown.....literally.

A veces Ian es un payaso.....literalmente.

Ian Meets Oslo-----Finally!

Ian was excited to meet Oslo for the first time. Isn't he cute? Ian is a great cousin. He helped Oslo out by running his legs for a little exercise and he by holding him carefully. He asked Pepper if he could hold him standing up. That hasn't happened yet, but a guy can always hope.
Mr. Oslo
Olso getting some exercise.
Two cute cousins meet in Monterey!
(Ian con su primo nuevo, Oslo)

The Tide Pools in Monterey

One of Ian's favorite things to do is look for "treasures" at the tide pools. Ian found a shell he just had to have and found away to get it.

The Big Bike Adventure

We had a sleep over with Sophie on Friday and something very sad happened. When we went outside to go home, Ian's bike was gone. We looked for it all around Mimi's yard and then, as we walked home we checked all of the other yard's as well. NO BIKE! I couldn't believe that someone would steal a little kid's bike in the middle of the day! What kind of a world do we live in for the love of pete? We drove around looking for it and finally gave up. Then Ian and Sophie decided to make signs to hang on the neighborhood light posts. They wrote up the signs and posted them both. Boy were they sad. I went to bed thinking what a long, boring summer this was going to be without a bike.
Sophie's note.
Ian's note.
This story ends happy though! No, the robber didn't bring the bike back. Mimi found it in her outside food room the next morning. We think one of the Heath children must have moved it. Ian suspects Drew, but I'm not so sure. I guess the moral of the story is: Call and verify with your sister's kids if they moved a blue bike from the front yard and put it in the outside food room before you go all crazy looking for a lost blue bike! The summer is saved!!!!

Sunday Afternoon

I think these faces show pure joy! It's great to be a kid and go have your picture taken by a bunch of flowers isn't it?
Ian y su Mamita Bonita.
Here's one good pose by the flowers. Ian and Sterling thought it was much funnier to pose by the garbage can.
This one's for Brooke. I'm sure she'll love seeing Claire lick the drinking fountain. Hehe.

Easter Fun

Happy Easter
Ian was set on making a face!

Feliz Pascua
Ian insistio hacer una cara.

It was quite a weekend. We hunted for eggs, jumped in the jump house, went to church--all dressed up, and generally goofed around.

Those biceps are Easter eggs!

Esos biceps son huevos de Pascua.

A New Job

Ian has a lot of jobs. He cleans his room; nearly every other day. He also does the following jobs on a weekly, rotating basis: vacuuming, washing the mirrors, watering the plants, tossing the trash, washing the toilets and helping with the dishes. He hangs laundry out to dry at Julie's and also cleans up after the babies. Mimi paid him last week to fold all of her towels, which he gladly did! He is also collecting bottles so he can make snail traps with Papa. He is quite a worker bee. However, on Saturday, he was introduced to a whole new way to make some money. Shining shoes!

Papa paid him 75 cents for all of his hard work. Ian can't wait to do it again.
Side note: That is a "tattoo" on his chest. After getting the bad news from the dentist that his teeth are rotting out of his head, he received a package from Chile containing 100 pieces of sugar filled gum. Not only that, they all come with tattoos. Joy!

Let's Go Fly a Kite

It was our first time to fly a kite and we
had a wonderful time! Thanks to the Heaths for the
great kite. The beauty of the day was hearing Ian
sing, "Let's go fly a kite!" at the top of his lungs while
he really did fly a kite!

The Substitute

I hate my job. I used to love it, but now....not so much. I think my attitude is trickling down to Ian. The other day he handed me this little doll and told me to put it on my chair at work. Then, he reasoned, I could come home and my boss would think I was still working.

What do you think? Would anyone know that isn't me?

The Great Snowman Day

This last great snow storm was for Naomi, who wanted to make a snowman!
Here is Ian's creation! He made the baby snowman; with help from Mimi.
Ian with the baby. Naomi with the mom. Vivi with the dad.
Dayna made the big snowguy up front. Only Ian would cheese for the picture.
(It is a nice view of Naomi's bum and the back of Viv's head though.)
Un snow beso.
It was a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon. We are glad the Birds came to visit!!!!

Si Vas Para Chile

Yesterday marked 1 year since our big trip to Chile. Ian celebrated by doing two things. First, Ian wore his soccer uniform from Chile and wrote a backwards 7 on the jersey in magic marker. Yeah. It was great. Pato told him he'd put a number on the back, but then didn't get to it and Ian hasn't forgotten the jersey needs a number. We also ate the last of our cookies from Chile! Here is Ian with his two little friends having hot chocolate and chilean cookies after spending an hour playing in the snow!
C-H-I-L-E. Chi, chi, chi, le, le, le. ¡Viva Chile!
C-H-I-L-E. Chi, chi, chi, le, le, le. ¡Viva Chile!

Who's the Fat Lady?

About 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning Ian climbed into my bed and I guess, somehow, I accidentally rolled over his arm. He didn't complain about it at all, but later marched on down to Mimi and Papa's for "something." He wouldn't disclose what that "something" was. About 15 minutes later he walked up with his right arm completely wrapped, from wrist to shoulder, in an ace bandage.
"What you got there, Buddy?" I asked.
"It's an R.C. Willey bandage," he said proudly.
"A what?" I didn't even get it.
"An R.C. Willey bandage." He repeated. Then, I started laughing. Ace Hardware, R.C. Willey. What is the difference really? When I wouldn't let him wear a long sleeve shirt and gloves to church, he tired of the "R.C. Willey" bandage and took it off.
Later that night he was wrestling with Whit. I yelled, "Dog Pile on Whit!"
Ian jumped on and I went to jump on him and he screamed, "Wait! I don't want a fat lady on me!"
"Who's the fat lady?" I asked.
Later as I retold the story and said again, "Who's the fat lady?" Sophie laughed right out loud over her dinner. I guess I must be the fat lady.

The Homemade Camp Fire

While I was doing the dishes, Ian started a campfire in the living room. Fortunately it was only a paper fire. He painted the fire on several pieces of paper and then roasted his marshmallow on a fork. (He also built a tent over the kitchen chairs.) He can't wait for summer!

The Easy Way

Since Ian is a lefty, he frequently writes in both directions. He was doing this math paper and I told him to put his name on it. He said, "I did. The easy way." It is hard to see in this picture, but if you look closely, you will see that between the letters a and m in the word name, he put a big I. So, with his backwards, left handed writing....it indeed spells his name. I hope he doesn't get so lazy that actually writing out a three letter name is a chore that needs to be done "the easy way."

American Idol

Ian and I watch American Idol; sometimes. We've been able to catch a few episodes the last couple of weeks. Ian likes to put a thumbs up or thumbs down while hearing the singer. Last night I was trying to bother him by singing in his ear. He stood up, pointed his finger toward the door, and yelled, "YOU'RE NOT GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!" Hum. I guess he doesn't think I can sing.

Ian y yo miramos American Idol; a veces. Ummm. Parece que él no cree que yo puedo cantar.

Reading Fun

Mimi is busy teaching Ian to read! He is so excited since he can now read three chapters in a "big kid" book. Chapter one goes something like this:
Red
Come Red.
Come Come.
Come here.
Come Nancy.
Come Susan.
Come here.
Come here Nancy.
Come here Susan.
Come here Red.
Chapter two goes something like this:
Bill
Come here Bill.
Come, come.
Here Bill.
Here Susan.
Go Nancy.
Go Susan.
Go. Go.
Stop Nancy.
Stop Susan.
Stop. Stop.
It's been pretty darn fun and we aren't ever going to stop reading now!
