ian
ian likes to hear books especially junie b. jones. this is the funniest part of it:
jingle bells
Batman smells
P.S. so does May.
I'd throw May right off the sleigh
And then I'd drive away!
the end.

Christmas List #2
Dear Santa-
I would like a Newsie shirt and some suspenders like they wear in Newsies. I would also like some cowboy boots, a new coat, a pencil sharpener, new Sunday shoes size 13 or 14 or 15, Capoeira lessons, and a new Hula Hoop. Mostly, I want the suspenders and a Newsie shirt. Thanks. -Ian.

For The Original Fans: Brooke, Dayna and Kaila
There's a "new" Newsies fan on the block and it's Ian! If you look closely at these pictures you will see that he is dancing along smashingly with the movie. He's also taken up spitting in his hand for a handshake. Lovely. Now if I can get these lyrics out of my head before I go mad!
ARISE AND SEIZE THE DAY!!!!!

A Nose
Ian's nose started running in church....actually it's been running all week, but it really started up in church. So, I politely said, "You need a Kleenex."
To which he replied shrieking, "I DON'T NEED A KLEENEX! I NEED A NEW NOSE!"
That's my boy!

Fútbol.....who knew?
So, after months of saying he didn't like soccer, Ian tried soccer and guess what? He loves it! He's pretty good at it too! These are pictures from his last game and he scored 3 goals! You'll notice the tongue out during the corner kick. It shows he concentrates like a Johnson I guess.

My school
My school. I think it's very boring because we don't do work. I like math. I like to do math. It is my favorite subject. I don't like when we don't do math...hard math. I hate it when we do easy math because it is so easy for me. I've been practicing math at home. I always get mad when we don't do hard math. Reading is boring to me, because I don't like little kid books. I mostly like chapter books. Chapter books are easy to me (because my mom is reading them out loud). My favorite chapter books are: Junie B. Jones, Ramona the Pest, SuperFudge and Ribsby. Ribsby is a dog that gets a bubble bath by a bunch of dumb girls and then he gets lost and found by an old lady.

The story behind the zissst....
Just in case you are wondering. Ian is a big fan of Junie B. Jones. (Such a big fan that we read three entire books yesterday!) So, there is a Junie B. Jones called The Mushie Gushie Valentine. Long story short: Meanie Jim sends Junie B. an anonymous valentine. Later she finds out and they decide they like one another. They start playing this game where they zissst each other. You know, they chase each other around and then when they touch, it's like an electric shock and they yell out, "zissst!" Ian liked the idea and started it up with Abby. (I hear she's a darling little red head.) I said, "Maybe she hasn't read the book. Does she know what zissst means?"
He replied, "I told her it means I love her." Okay. Just so we are clear.
So, just to be funny last night as we walked home from blogging I said, "Why don't you ever zissst me? Don't you like me?"
He says, "I really, really, really like you. But I really, really, really, really like Abby. One more really. So I zissst her, not you."
Fabulous. Less than a month into school and I'm already not the most important woman in his life. It's going to be a long 12 years!

Zissst
abby. she is my girlfriend. she thinks i'm annoying when i do this...zissst. i zissst abby every day. abby has a friend that's named taylor. taylor wants to know why i zissst abby. it's because i like her. abby is one seat away from me. there is somebody that is in my class that is between me and abby. every day i walk past her i zissst her. sometimes she zissts me back. i mostly always zissst her. when i stand in line i mostly stand in line by abby. sometimes i am in the back of the line because i'm the power saver and abby is the line leader. the power saver is always in the back of the line. when we go to sit on our square i always crawl over to her square until she comes and then i zissst her. and she always doesn't like when i zissst her. zisssting abby is fun. i never can get by abby when taylor is. taylor is abby's best friend too. Zissst means: i like you.
bye. -ian

Meet the Teacher Day
Ian and I went in to meet his teacher today. School officially starts for him on September 6th. We filled out a typical questionnaire. It went something like this:
(Ian's answers are in red, my thoughts in purple)
Name: Ian Whitfield Johnson That is a nice, solid, manly name. Good job, Mom.
Birthday: January 5, 2002 What a horrible date. Can it be any closer to Christmas?
People in your Family: Mom and Me Ya, too bad there isn't a good looking Dad in the house that likes to mow the lawn and rub my back.
Favorite Food: Chicken Noodle Soup Are you kidding me? The last three times I've made chicken noodle soup, you wouldn't even eat one bite.
Favorite Color: Aquamarine.....no wait, put blue. Blue? Blue? What happened to red?
Favorite School Subject: Math Math huh? Weird. Well, that's good. I'm glad you like math since I won't be able to help you do it after the 1st grade.
Favorite sport: Soccer Ohhh yaaaa. That's my boy.
Favorite book: SuperFudge Wow. Good thing I read ahead and censored some of that book. If the news broke out about the big guy in red....I don't think it would be a favorite.
Favorite T.V. show: Hum. Let me think about that. Let's put, "I hate T.V.! T.V. is for dummies." No Mom.
What do you like to do: Ride bikes, swim, read. That's all you like to do? Well, at least you didn't say "watch T.V."
What you want to be when you grow up: An Artist That's funny. Last time we filled one of these out you wanted to be a lifeguard.
So now you know Ian.... and me, a little better. Fun Stuff!!!!

My Vacaction in SALT LAKE CITY!!!!
We had a fun vacation in Salt Lake City. We stayed with Aunt Kaila over night. We went out to dinner with Sophie and then Ian played in the fountain. We watched a movie at Kaila's house and ate lots of popcorn. In the morning we went to the zoo. We needed some good luck from the white alligator. (You can see his blue eye glowing in the picture....if you look close enough.) Ian attributes all the good luck he's had this summer to the "Ghost of the Bayou"! Then we went out to lunch with Kaila and then to the movies. We already decided that next year we would stay longer. Thanks Kai, for letting us come!

Camping!
We went camping last weekend. Ian had a good time playing in the river, sleeping in a tent, hiking and eating burned marshmellows. You know, the usual camp fun!
Fuimos a un campamento el fin de semana. Lo pasamos bien; jugando en el río, durmiendo en una carpa, ir de excursión, y por supuesto comiendo comida quemado en el fuego. Todo las cosas divertidas de un campamento.

Pioneer Day
Ian asked me why we never do fireworks. Good question. "Call your Uncle Whit." Was my response. Whit thought fireworks sounded like a great idea! Ian was thrilled!!! It was so exciting to hold the flashlight while Whit lit the firework...and then to run! After the "show", Ian couldn't sleep. Whit promised him he could light the snakes the next morning. Thanks Uncle Whit! You are the best.

Roasting Marshmellows
The other night I found Ian and his friend Kelle roasting marshmellows over a very small fire in the gutter. (They were being supervised by Kelle's much older brother; he just didn't want to be in the picture.) Ian loves Kelle because she is a real tomboy! As we walked home, Ian mentioned he was going to light a fire of his own. I said, "You can't light a fire until you are 16!" "AHH MOM!" He protested. Maybe 16 is a stretch, but at least the topic is dropped for now....and the matches are well hidden!
Independence Day Swim
There's nothing better than a refreshing swim after marching in the the 4th of July Parade!
¡No hay nada mejor que una piscina fresca, despues de marchar en el desfile del 4 de julio!
